Foundation Hosts Most Successful Fundraising Event Ever
PROVO, Utah - November 2002 - More than 1,300 people raised approximately $600,000 at the third Nu Skin Force for Good Foundation Gala, held during the "Be the Difference" convention last September, making it the largest Gala yet.
This annual fundraising dinner/auction accounted for 55 percent of the Foundation's revenues in 2002. Gala funds were raised through ticket sales and silent and live auctions.
Some of the most popular silent auction items were an autographed Karl Malone jersey and two framed pictures of the Nu Skin Enterprises Provo highrise with the Olympic wraps on it. The jersey raised $1,000 and the pictures raised $1,100 and $1,500 respectively.
During the live auction, Pharmanex auctioned off a Pharmanex BioPhotonic Scanner for $30,000. Two miniature Force for Good statuettes brought in $15,000 each. An official Olympic torch went for $5,000, and Big Planet's E-bike went for $7,000. Another hot item was a quilt that had been donated by a mother's support group. The group made the quilt in honor of Garrett Spalding, a child who lives near them that has the skin disease Epidermolysis Bullosa. They, and the Foundation, were overjoyed that the quilt itself raised $80,000.
"The response to the Foundation's activities during convention was astonishing. Our expectations were far exceeded. It is heart warming to see the genuine desire of our distributors and employees to improve the lives of others through the humanitarian activities of the foundation," Gary Garrett, co-chairperson of the Nu Skin Force for Good Foundation said.
