Bann Kho Lao School Boat
At Bann Kho Lao School, half of all students live on surrounding islands and travel to school in a government-funded boat. Unfortunately, when the boat is otherwise occupied, 40 students are forced to stay home from school. Seeing these difficulties, Nu Skin Thailand and the Nu Skin Force for Good Foundation donated a boat to the school, complete with life vests for each student. Now, daily school attendance has increased significantly and the students are better able to obtain the education they desire and deserve.

The Learning Center
Playing is more than just fun and games, it allows children to refine and develop their physical skills, cultivate their creative thoughts, stimulate their brain growth, and develop emotional responses in relation to themselves and to others. With this in mind, the Nu Skin Force for Good Foundation rebuilt The Learning Center in southern Thailand after it was destroyed in the tsunami of December 2004. The Foundation also donated educational supplies for students. The Learning Center provides an enjoyable and productive work environment for 200 students.

Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Foundation
In July 2007, the Nu Skin Force for Good Foundation donated funds to the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Foundation in Thailand. These funds purchased a second ventilator for the pediatric cardiac ICU. The Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Foundation's goal is to increase cardiac procedures from 500 to 1,000 annually.

In Thailand, approximately 5,000 babies are born with congenital heart disease each year, and about 1,500 children with congenital heart disease are left untreated every year. In response to the need to perform the necessary surgeries on these young children, friends and surgeons of the Institute of Cardiovascular Disease at Rajvithi Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand founded the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Foundation (PCSF) in June 1997. The Foundation's goals are to increase the number of heart surgeries performed per year and to provide surgery in time to save more lives. To reach these goals, the current Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Rajvithi Hospital must be expanded in order to accommodate more children. The Nu Skin Force for Good Foundation donated funds in 2004 to help purchase equipment for the expanded ICU. The new unit will allow the hospital to operate on 500 more children annually and to allow the children to recuperate under direct medical supervision. The donation is the latest of several grants the Nu Skin Force for Good Foundation has made to PCSF over the years.

Previous donations include:

  • Provided funds to purchase equipment for the ICU in April 2003

Trang ProvinceSupporting island communities in dugong conservation and habitat protection, Trang Province (November 2002)
The islands of Libong and Muk off the western coast of Thailand comprise 8,649 acres and 3,718 acres of land respectively, and are home to the only remaining population of Thailand's endangered dugongs (marine mammals closely related to manatees), who feed upon the islands' expansive seagrass beds. Nearby are two uninhabited islands, Lao-Lam and Ko Kah, which provide a critical filtering mechanism between heavy erosion from the mainland and the seagrass beds of Libong and Muk Islands. YADFON, a local NGO, has been working with local communities for years. Seacology is working with YADFON to provide these island communities with materials and supplies for a network of seagrass bed and mangrove forest preservation projects to protect the endangered dugongs.

Southeast Asia Children's Heart Fund
The Southeast Asia Children's Heart Fund has combined Foundation grants with distributor efforts in Thailand, the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia to fund corrective heart surgery for underprivileged children with congenital heart disease. Partnering with the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Foundation in Thailand, Child Health in Life and Development Foundation in the Philippines, and IJN Foundation in Malaysia, 365 children successfully underwent heart surgery in 2008. The Southeast Asia Children's Heart Fund saved one child a day in 2008.
