Cloud Gate Dance Theatre
The arts and humanities represent an important part of a child’s education, yet for children in rural Taiwan, attending a professional dance production is only a dream. Thanks to the force for good efforts of Taiwanese distributors and employees, approximately 3,000 students from remote areas of Taiwan were given the educational opportunity to attend Cloud Gate Dance Theatre and make their dream a reality. This cultural dance performance was the first the students had ever witnessed, and all costs were covered by Nu Skin Taiwan. The market’s local force for good outreach also enabled the professional dance group to visit and perform in 10 hospitals to comfort suffering patients.
Earthquake Recovery
A series of earthquakes in September 1999 devastated the island of Taiwan. Because so many of the Taiwanese people are part of the Nu Skin Enterprises family, the Nu Skin Force for Good Foundation contributed funds to aid in the recovery effort. Nu Skin Enterprises' distributors and employees also contributed to the donation.
Mangrove Restoration (1998)
Seacology and Nu Skin Taiwan funded a reforestation project with the Tayo aboriginal people in the mountains of Taiwan, where 100,000 trees were planted. At a ceremony commemorating the Tayo planting, Seacology Chairman Paul Cox met Taiwan's director of forestry and proposed that they work together to protect Taiwan's Formosan mangroves. Nu Skin Taiwan and Seacology matched funds to produce a Mandarin language film on mangrove conservation, which became the fourth most popular film in all of Taiwan. The National University of Taiwan organized an international conference on mangrove restoration, where Paul Cox presented Taiwan's minister of agriculture with seeds of two extinct species of mangroves and announced that Seacology wished to restore part of Taiwan's heritage. As a result of these efforts, the government has established five new mangrove preserves, and 10,000 mangrove trees have been planted.
